Hi all
Looking for a holiday next June. My other half says she would like to visit New York & either Boston or Washington DC. I am not too bothered where we go.
Any tips and/or advice would be welcome.
Thanks.

I went to New York a couple of years back and considered Washington DC until I found out the cost of flights or a train there. Instead I took the train (Amtrak) up to Toronto, stopping off at Niagara. It's very easy to do and the trains have reclining seats so it's comfy for the long ride.
It worked out about a $100 cheaper going to Toronto instead of US major cities, but that was a few years ago.
Out of Boston and Washington, I would go for Washington, more to see and do.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
If you book the Amtrak service well in advance it isn't that expensive. Cheaper fares are about $49 oneway. You can book on their website.
I'd plump for New York and Washington DC.0 -
If you fancy the coast you could go down to the Delaware coast.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

You can also get the Megabus from NY to Washington DC if you don't mind sitting on a bus. Cost from $1 one way.0

I would also go to Washington, I went there last summer on the way to New York and it was brilliant! I loved DC more than New York and would love to go back.
You can book the train for around $50 each way in advance but there are also buses between Washington and New York - try Megabus and Bolt Buses.0 -
Well if you like history...I would go to Philadelphia. It's often overlooked and one of the most history-filled places in the US. They have fab museums too. I love their Art museum...you can jog up the stairs like Rocky lol.

The last time I went to NY, we went to Washington DC for the day, got amtrak train - make sure you book well in advance. took about 3 hours to get there I think, trains have pretty comfy seats.0

Washington DC has a lot going for it as a tourist destination and it's one of the few US cities wherre you won't need a car! Most of the major sights (White House, Mounments, Capitol Hill, Smithsonian museum and galleries) are pretty much within walking distance ( or on the veyr good metro underground system) and well worth a visit. A little further afield the excellent zoo is still on the metro (tube) system. If you take the train you arrive in Union station which is a sight in itself! Georgetown good for funky shopping, food, music, bars, etc All in all a civilised and enjoyable city...but I don't know Boston to compare!Just because somebody is certain doesn't mean they are right!0

It's looking pretty convincing for DC then. I assume that it would be easier in New York without a car?
Thanks again.Going down the Oteley Road to see the Shrewsbury aces! :T0 -
