Opening new tabs in IE7

Recently upgraded to IE7 by download. I therefore am having my first experience of opening "tabs" rather than separate IE windows (although my dad has Firefox so I've seen tabs before in that).
Sites like the MSE forums are set up so that when you left-click on a hyperlink it automatically opens in a new window. Is there a way I can set a default on my Internet Options so that this goes to a new tab instead of a new window? I know you can do it via the right-click menu, but am hoping I can do it the fast way...
