    Include me in also thinking Asda is no longer cheaper than the other SM. It always used to be IMO but hadn't been for a while and was shocked alot of the things I buy are actually cheaper at Tes*os. Plus they don't stock some really basic things I always buy like harissa paste and green lentils...at least I couldn't find them anywhere. Won't be returning anytime soon

  • Me and the kids have a similar discussion on asda prices every week.
    they love the Frij Milk Shakes.
    One week they will be 50p, next week £1.20 next week 2 for a £1 and so on, prices are up and down so often it is a deliberate attemp to confuse shoppers so they no longer know which shop is cheapest for their fave product.

    went to Asda yesterday because I was just looking for something, walked round and thought I really cannot afford to shop in here at all anymore. time was when hubbie was out of work years ago we went there because it was the cheapest supermarket around, especially for meat, but not anymore!! also when kids were young it was great. now not much better off but we shop at Aldi and Sains. basics are brill. our trolley is a sea of orange and yellow, but hey!! we love it, especially when everyone looks at us either in disgust, surprise, pity even or amazement at whats in there. lol!!

    I shop at Asda because it's only ten minutes walk from where I live and I don't drive. There isn't really anywhere else, although a Tesco has been threatening to open about 25 minutes away for the full eight years that I've lived here. I'm not expecting to see it in action any time soon. I've seen the leap in Asda prices too in recent weeks - it seems particularly noticeable in the biscuit aisle. One minute my son's favourite Garibaldis were 75p a packet, the next minute they'd changed the packaging and the price had shot up to £1 a packet.

    It wouldn't surprise me if I were to learn that the recent packaging change across all their own brands was made in order to surreptitiously decrease the weights marked on many of them too instead of or in addition to the price increases. I suppose it's only a matter of time before we see a 'new look' Smart Price range as well, and it will all be marginally smaller/lighter, but wont be decreasing in price to compensate for it.

    I don't buy junk / processed food anymore, and shop seasonally (or take advantage of offers) so I haven't noticed any increase in my shopping basket. Primarily because if it looks like a rip-off, I don't buy it.

    I have found asda to save me a lot of money on tesco over the last few months but only do 'big shop' there once a month and get a lot of offers. I then go to netto and iceland to pick up most weekly bits - however I went to my local netto on wednesday and found it was shutting today and is reopening as an asda market at the end of the month!
    I think Iceland might see more of my money as I seem to save most money there!

    The W.W Tuna and Sweetcorn was always £1.63 - £1.97 per pack or 2 for £3, (very occasionally 2 for £2), now they're £2.48 each with no offer meaning two packs would almost be £5 :eek:

    That's just an example, but I too have noticed the prices creeping up.
    Saving as much as possible to replace all the things I've had years and are on their way to the knackers yard :eek:

    Tesco do the same thing, everytime i go the cesar dog food is a different price.
  • I always thought

    Asda/Iceland/Lidl/Aldi = cheap
    Sainsbury's = expensive
    Waitrose/M&S = don't even think about it

    but appears that I've just believed the ad's?
