BBC IPlayer programmes in other player

In BBC Iplayer desktop you can download and save the programmes to watch online for up to 30 days.

Is there any way of dowloading and saving BBC Iplayer progarammes so that it can be kept saved for longer and be played in other player like Real Player or Windows Media Player?

They are quite heavily protected although there are programs that claim to convert the files.

For me, it is easier to use a site like uknova or tvtorrents.com and download the avi.

get_iplayer works fine ([STRIKE]thought don't think it's been updates for a while[/STRIKE]) i've used it in the past to grab radio plays

How does http://www.infradead.org/get_iplayer...t_iplayer.html work?It is taking me to BBC Iplayer directly.

it works by fooling the BBC's servers into thinnking it's an iphone (iphone streams can't use the flash DRM!)
It then saves it as a file.
it also downloads a list of all available TV and radio shows

get_iplayer --refresh > listings.txt

that creates a text file (listings.txt) with all the program numbers and descriptions for you to look through and see what you want to record
then type

get_iplayer --get ###

with ### being the 3 digit number for the show.
sit back and wait for 10 -15 mins
