ISP v COMP help please which isnt working?

Hiya for the last month maybe 5 weeks I have had huge problems with the internet and it has got worse and is terrible atm :mad:
I know virgin are having problems and have phoned them 3 times @25p a min to try and sort it out only for the last time for them to tell me its my computer making the internet slow not them! They said they had tested the line and its fine so its my comp.
So
1) Can my computer make the net slow?
2) If so how do I fix it?
3) is it just virgin making excuses? As it is better during the day..
When I mean slow I mean really slow and its timing out as its over a min a page to load or it keeps cutting me off! Its slower than dial up.
I have done a speedtest which says that vigin is slow. Please help as I cant come on to work as I cant get on or it takes too long. Virgin said its my mcafee interferaring/clashing with norton as I have livereg still on the comp can that be so as the comp wont let me remove livereg...and they have both been on the comp 2 yrs and been fine!

I dont what you need for the 2nd one:
Line speed capabilities
Rate adaptive (250k and 500k) : Green
Fixed Rate (1000k and 2000k) : Amber
MAX speed (upto 8000k) : Green (1500 kbps)
250k, 500k and 1000k ADSL is available on this line. 2000k ADSL is not likely to be available on this line.
Line status
This line has ADSL fully installed on it. There are no open orders currently on this line.

The speedtest has never been this bad!
Download speed is 22 upload is 214 both KBPS
So do I just switch then? When I find another isp?

are you using a router or modem? do you have filters on all phones/sky. are you supposed to be on the 8meg service?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

I am using a modem for the 1meg service and I have 1 filter on my sky/phone socket, the front room doesnt have a filter but the phone is only on the sky extention.
We only had 1 with the modem in the beginning.
Its took me this long to get back on as it wont load the page GGRRRRR0 -

You could always to a fresh install of Windows, if you know how.
But the problem may still be there. You could tell Virgin you done a fresh install of Windows and so it can't be your computer.
Try running Command Prompt and type ping https://www.bbc.co.uk you should get your roun-trip in ms0 -

TBH I am just sick of virgin now they dont seem to want to help me! ITs good again tonight but why not all the time?!
I dont know how to do a new install of windows either...and dont kow where command prompt is..I am puter stupid lol0 -
That site doesnt work for me as I have an ex-cable number but on the other site the paths are now green (that were red) and its not helping much is it lol.
MY head is all a jumble looking at new isp's now as ive been with virgin for over 4 yrs! Ive never really looked lol

Put your post code or telephone number in here http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/ If your VP Capacity is red it means your exchange in contended and its down to BT to sort out. I'm afraid it could be a while before they get round to it too, I know of people that have been on a contended exchange for 15 months and are still waiting. Howver, mine only took 3 months to get sorted.
Let us know what it says and we'll take it from there.0
