I'm not entirely sure what is going on with my electric at the moment, I have a prepayment meter and always managed to get by just putting £20 a week on the key, but since the beginning of november it has doubled and its crippling me, we have purposely cut down on everything, switching everything off at the mains, energy saving light bulbs, bought a clothes horse instead of using the dryer all the time, water heater is only switched on when needed and yet its still sucking it dry! I live a a tower block under the council and we have three storage heaters as the underfloor heating is knackered. When I first moved in I rang the council and they told me the heaters were not run off my electric(I pay £7.66 a week heating charge) but I'm now beginning to wonder. I was miffed enough having to pay the heating charge all throughout the summer when it was switched off. Anyone had any similar experiences? Also the heating came back on beginning of November.

Energy prices have gone up a lot recently.
Try using a comparison service to see if there are any better rates.

Ebico have the same tariff regardless of how you pay (pre pay, DD etc)
and they are a fair trade supplier. Their account is administered by Southern Electric - don't let that put you off.

Many suppliers are slow at updating prepayment meters. A fairly common sernario is your prices will have gone up maybe two or even three times since the meter was last updated, and now not only are you paying the new rates but your supplier is clawig back the additional cost of the power you have used since the meter was last updated. Best bet is to give them a call and ask. However it may also be worth investigating the heating as well, since it does seem suspicious it went up the same time the heating came back on.0
