I've been thinking about this more and more. I may get 3 x 2 man tents. More to take, but better if disaster strikes! OR maybe a 4 and a 2. We have 3 kids and 2 older kis (15 and 19). The two older girls I bet would hardly ever come so may get them a 2 man tent on their own. What has any hardened camper with kids got as a suggestion?

    Thanks

I would go for a bigger tent every time. That way if it does rain you can sit inside, try to go for one with decent head height too. Nothing worse than being cramped in a tiny tent in the rain with miserable kids! 2 man tents are a right pain the the @rse to get dressed in too!

    :( Trying hard...failing miserably :(

Ordered a cheap tent. Is there anything else on the site with 50% off + a discount code that this might work on?
  • I would say buy the biggest tent that you can afford, with a decent sized living space and seperate bedrooms or even better give me a budget and let me see what I can find for you ;) :rotfl:

I just recently bought this tent http://www.outdoorworlddirect.co.uk/vango-breakout-800-dlx-tent-smoke-ocean-premium-tent.html hoping to road test it this week :D

Camping is great, I love it lol

I bought that one last year with the carpet and extra groundsheet package, but haven't yet had a chance to use it. Off to Bridport this weekend for the first time though.

It's worth remembering that some campsites charge extra for tents larger than a six-man. When I booked for this weekend, I was asked if the tent would fit on a 9m by 9m site, cue mad rush to the internet to check....then it really sunk in that the tent I've bought is bigger than my living room.

yes i found out last year of first time camping that we would get charged extra as we had 3 tents but when i had the confirmation through they only charged me for the 2 tents and were ok with us pitching the 3 tents

got to say after much checking, reviewing and seeing in the flesh, dont think you can go wrong with the VANGO VISTA 800 DLX now £200 at GO OUTDOORS, yes you need to get the discount card for a fiver but it is an awesome tent and will get one myself on thursday when wages are in hand:j
best thing is loads of room in the middle with bedrooms either end and two doors, one either side of tent, if ya want to loose one of the bedrooms at the end this allows you to have an end opening with bit of a porch as well.......took me ages to find one i like and sub £200 oh and new!!!! if money was no object then god knows which one i'd choose :rotfl::rotfl:

    hope this helps

I bought some thing very similar to this last year,

    Vango tigris 800

    http://www.breakoutdoors.co.uk/Vango-Tigris-800-Tent-2010-Model-P74.aspx

we are only 2 adults and 2 toddlers but went for this 8 birth with 3 sleeping pods, a 4 birther and 2 x 2 births,

we all sleep in the large birth and use 2nd pod for changing/storage and the 3rd as a the kids play area/toy storage,

we took the long term view that as the kids get older they will each have their own sleeping area/storage for privacy!

thats what i was going to do have all of us at one end and use pod for storage one good thing about this tent is the built in ground sheet from front to back so nothing can get in or out!!! lots ive seen including cheapo ones have separate ground sheet in living area not so good if it hooves it down with rain lol
