Planning permission driveway

Hi all,
Have submitted application for extension to side of house and have guy coming from Knowsley council over issue of driveway at side of house.
He told me that most cars are 4.8m and by law the drive should be 5.5m.
This seems a bit extreme to me but looking round websites I can't seem to find if this is true or not.
Anyone help with this.
Thanks

A standard parking space is 2.4m x 4.8m. Depending on the authority they will probably want a bit longer than this to ensure that there is space at the back edge of it to walk around and at the same time ensuring that cars don't over hang your property. It's not law by the way just guidance.

    5.5m is a reasonable requirement.
I'm retiring at 55. You can but dream.
