Replacing a tired Sky digibox

New telly on the agenda this month , but my other half doesn't want to hook up sad old sky box to shiny new telly...
Spoke to lady in Comet about options & she said try small independents for a new box ,as the major retailers are only glorified form fillers on behalf of sky.
Any tasty deals on new digiboxes / skyplus boxes out there .. or do I have to go through boring old sky ??
I should add that technically there's nothing wrong with our digibox - it's just the cosmetics with the shiny new tv

hi you can buy an brand new sky box from around £80, and thats with postage these days from many online retailers, if you are after a sky + box they again retail for around £140. these can be found on a serch from google.
try to avoid buying from E-bay.
i hope this helps:p0 -
you can try talking to sky CS. I did the same told them box was faulty and needed to be replaced. They were asking for 40£ intially as i was out of contract i threaten with closing my account if they can't provide me with a new box.
They gave me a new box for free with free installation and 6 months half price package of my choice.0 -

How much?? I've had two off the Freecycle scheme for zilch. 1 Amstrad and 1 Toshiba both working perfectly.0 -
just ring them (sky) up and say u r cancelling coz u have freeview which is much better value. Keep up your nerve as long as poss, they will try and offer you all sorts of deals. Be clear in your head what you want from the call (in our case free sky + box and installation) and we got it, but it took 25 mins of going through all options...say u've no credit/debit card so you cant even pay half-price for it. It worked for us. Good luck p.s. WE had to actually mention "how about sky+, any deals on that" b4 we got our offer, and it took 10 mins after that to get it free. I know there was a free tel no. posted a while back on mse for sky, maybe another member can provide you with a link..

Ringing sky and threatening to cancel is definatly the best option telling them you are going to freeview because your box is broken and you are struggling financially anyway so you need to cut down on expenses, go all the way through with it until they offer you something you are more than happy with (you should get another box and half price subs for 3months if you have been with them for sometime) and do not be afraid to cancel you can always ring back and get it back which believe me is a lot easier than cancelling!! . Failing this you can get boxes on Ebay for as little as £25 including postage from reputable sellers.0

Freephone number for Sky is 0800 0512595
I'll be surprised if you get any deals though I don't think they are doing any at the mo.0 -
tell them your old box will not match your new tv colour scheme and you will be getting a freeview box , my hubby did this and intended to do so,he wanted it all in silver!!!! they initially offered him a refurbished sky + box and installation for 40.00 which he accepted after percuassion from sky...we had 3 which didnt work, no probelms with sky each time they repalced the wire, then the dish, then the box in the end all brand new including the boxfor40.00.I wished upon a star tonight that I would see you once more,
To hold you in my arms and tell you how much I love you,
To hear your voice, to kiss your cheek oh for just one more time,
But all I have are memories and a heart full of love and tears.0 -
hi,don't know if this is any help, our old one had a fault,so rang them and they charged £65,standard call out fee,but then if can't be repaired they give you a new one, with 12 months guarantee0

I'm glad they give you a new one now as they used to replace with a refurbished box. I'm sure there are a few places on the net that give you a new one with a £20 Freesatfromsky viewing card inc in the price for about £90.0
