I promise I have read throughmuch of the Techie advice already posted on this issue, but have become really confused about where we have gone wrong!
We have bought a D-link DSL-G624T router which we have successfully installed on our desktop computer. Our Packard Bell Laptop is detecting the router ok and says we are connected to it but we cannot get on line.
When we open IE on the laptop it shows the `the page cannot be displayed` message
I have temporarily disabled the firewall and also tried previous advice of having 'never dial a connection' selected and selecting 'automatically detect settings' on the Lan Settings button. We just tried a physical connection using the ethernet cable from the router to laptop but that didnt work either.
Can anyone help, we'd be so grateful!

have you got an ADSL modem connected to the laptop? cos it's picking up an IP address on the net from a speedtouch modem.0

if you haven't already, stick the phone lead in the router at the 3rd step, and see if you can
ping https://www.google.com
or
ping 66.249.85.104
if you can't, go to http://192.168.1.1 and make sure that you are connected to the internet with your isp username and password.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -

your router is a router modem and it sounds like you haven't correctly configured it for your ASDL connection and it also looks like you still either have an external (possibly internal) connected to a system on your network.
the idea of a router modem is that it has a modem built into it and is directly connected to the phone line.Scottish proverb - "Never drink whisky with water and never drink water without whisky"0 -
well your PC is connecting to the router ok.. wired and wirelessly
If you haven't encrypted the wireless yet, you ought to, but sort out the internet connection first.
Also, turn off the automatically detect settings, it shouldn't be needed.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks everyone
One final (hopefully) question
Is Orange/Wanadoo PPPoA/PPPoE, Static or Dynamic IP?0 -
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
