What happens between exchange and completion?

Hi,

I am hoping to exchange next Monday and complete a fortnight later. What happens between this period? I do have the option to complete on the same day but this will cost me another £100 plus VAt for my solicitor.

there is no reason for the £100 if you exchange and complete on the same day, unless your solicitor is setting aside other work just for you. a bit rich really!

The solicitor will need to ensure that the funds are in place on the same day as completion which doesnt allow him any failure time from the finance company - who may be making mistakes or slow in handling such - for this reason he may be charging for the inevitable half a dozen extra "are you ready yet ?" phone calls he will make and recieve...
If you are in no rush, I wouldn't worry once contracts are exchanged you are fairly safe.

I exchanged and completed same day. Sol thought I was just going in to exchange but because she couldn`t wouldn`t say when we would complete I saw red and insisted on completing same day. I wasn`t charged anything extra and they didn`t even ask me to pay their fees before completion. They were absolutely useless up to that point and cost me the purchase of another house that I had done all the searches for.
