    So would you not then go down some sort of "fit for purpose" route? The part is 6 months old, it isnt fit for purpose.
    Who would you complain to? Would you not go back to the company that supplied the part within a certain timescale?

    Possibly, but a manufacturers guarantee is over and above your statutory rights. The two things are separate things.

    This could have been pursued under SOGA, and is probably why Kwik-Fit gave in, not because the OP was correct. Kwik-Fit already seemed to have intimated to the OP that an inherent fault seem to be present.
