Problem with Sky tv bill where do I stand

Hi, can anyone help me.
On 18th december I upgraded by tv package from sports (£38 per month) to the full package (£43 per month) in order for me and the family to be able to watch movies over the holidays.
I upgraded using the tv remote and the sky interactive service, no information was given about any charges over and above the cost of the full package.
When I received my bill a couple of days ago I was informed that due to upgrading prior to my bill date, I was charged £92. (apparently something to do with upgrading before my bill date and then the new charge on top). I expected to be charged at a maximum, the difference between the two packages, ie. £5ish.
I contacted sky to complain about these charges and was told by the customer service that the current bill would take me through to Feb, ie. no payment in december but pay double for Jan which covers upto Feb.
I've since checked my bank account online and found that I've been paid the standard £37 for December and I will be charged the £92 in Jan when my next bill comes in.
I plan to ring them tomorrow to challenge this, but would appreciate some pointers from people. I'm currently 2 months into a 12 month sky+ contract so not sure how much wieght I'd have by threatening to cancel the whole thing. (Plus like a sucker I like watching sky)
I basically feel like they have me over a barrel but really hate the fact that I'm being charged riduculous amounts for the situation when I'm prepared to give them more money in the first place.
Rant over,
thanks in advance to anyone who posts advice to this.

Alot of people have problems with Sky.
I had Sky for over 2 years. What a total rip off It was!
I purchased a motorised satellite system and can now get channels from all over the world - Its wonderful and It Is free!0 -
cheers for that, I doubt I'd be able to get an external dish, I was hoping for advice on how to tackle this problem with sky.0

You could always tell them that there isn't sufficient funds in your bank to clear the £92 they may split it for you, phone them again and see what they say0

Agree with EMBB above. Ultimately they can do what you say above, so your best tactic is to say you haven't got the money and could they credit your account to compensate.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Most providers charge for services in advance so it would be normal for the bill to be higher than usual however these charges seem to be double. I would double-check exactly what they have billed you for as it doesn't seem quite right....ITV Winners Club #87 :eek:0

Managed to find a freephone number for sky by searching on google got this link
0800 051 2595

This got me through to the uk based call centers and I rang with the intention of cancelling. The explanation I got was totally different to the first time I rang (when I spoke to overseas call centers, who I now feel tried to fob me off)
I was told that the double charge was due to an automatic letter being sent out, and sky's systems not taking into account that my december bill was due to be paid a day or two after I upgraded.
I have been informed that the bill (next month) should be the standard £43 for the full package, plus the £6 odd, for the few days when I upgraded.
Thats fair enough and I expected to pay this anyway.

Useful phone number! Given how long you often end up on the phone to them.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world
