Did you get your P60 for 2009-2010
If not they need to produce that if they are doing a p45 for March 2011
won't march 2011 look better than being unemployed since sept 090 -
getmore for less: Yes I did receive my P60. I was a full-time student between 2009-2011 doing two post-graduate courses, so I wasn't unemployed. Nor would I lie on my CV to make it seem like I had more time in a job than I did, it would be pretty obvious if I did seeing as the job is 300 miles away from the university.
Thanks to all who have made helpful comments. I am going to leave 2009 on my CV as that is what I think is morally right and will explain if needed about the dates, I have all my payslips, P60s and evidence of my qualifications gained during that period, as well as human references for the entire time so I don't think it will be a problem, was just panicking. I will also complete a P46 in my new post.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

I did pay tax from two jobs that year up until September. No I did not get a refund, how would I know if one is due?Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -
Contact HMRC. They should have figures of what you were paid and the tax deducted, but won't know that you were a student from the September."When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0

Thanks. I'll get on to them tomorrow. Bless em, they are so nice when I call but this will be about the dozen time in the last month.
They won't need any figure from me then?Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

By the way, whilst I have more regard for HMRC than many on these boards, I think that you are the first I have heard to call them nice. You're not married to a traffic warden or an MP by any chance?"When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0 -

Thanks for the advice. I'll see what they say tomorrow.
lol, they have been nothing but nice and helpful to me. Maybe I just get the rare good ones. They've put up with me being a bit dumb to all this tax stuff and always explain things fully, just takes about 10 minutes to get the to pick up the phone.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0 -

I've just received my p45 and it has my leaving date as March 2011 - which makes no sense and also has £0 as my total pay in the employment - doesn't make sense either.
So two questions:
1) Does it matter that the information is incorrect in terms of future employers? (I have a new job that I am starting next month who have not asked to see my P45 due to the issues getting it)
2) Does this affect what I put on my CV? I don't want to put my leaving date as 2011 as I didn't work for them after 2009, but if an employer calls them up they are going to say 2011. Will it look like I'm trying to hide something? I have proof that I was in full-time education between 2009-2011 at the other end of the country.
3) Who do I call to correct the P45 - the old employer or HMRC?
Argh!
What? If you left any job in Sept 2009 the P45 is INVAILED as P45's are only good for 6 weeks then you have to sign a P46!!
If the P45 says ZERO in this employment then they company have still had you on the payroll all this time and never had you as a leaver.
YOU should have sent your P45 to the tax office when you left your job if you were going into full time education and not working.
I can only suggest you call your tax office and ask them what dates they have on you0 -

Thanks, for my current job I've had a background check so am just a bit paranoid in case the P45 affects that, but as it turns out I don't have to show it if it is out of date then that's fine.
No company can issue a P45 now for a leaving date in March 2011 even if you left then or not they are not following the payroll/tax rules0
