Have you actually spoken to the Gym to see if you can reduce it to 12 month.

I would love to see these contracts banned, so many people regret them after signing.

You are wasting effort worrying if you haven't even spoken to the gym yet. Speak to them asap!

No one is perfect, and people make mistakes, so stop fretting over it, accept you messed up, and ENJOY the membership! At least get some good out of it!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Have a read through your contract, some gyms allow you to transfer/assign your membership to others so if you can find someone that wants to take over it you may be able to do this.

    Good luck!

OP, please let us know how you get on. It might help other people.

:o Right guys here's my update on the LA Fitness Saga.

I went down to the LA Fitness where I joined and spoke to the Regional Manager to explain, it would not be so bad but I am not working at the mo due to a Redundancy in December so as you can image 2 years to me is a long time especially for someone in my position i.e not settled, anyhow I digress, he gave me the number for membership services and said to ring them up and maybe they could arrange something, meaning to shorten the contract to a year one as I still want to go there, which isn't so bad.

I contacted membership services and explained about the looong contract and my fears, I must admit I got a bit upset (good job I had me sunnies on) so the upshot of it was that a Kim Holland (made sure I got her name) would email the branch where I joined to try to get them to change my contract to a yearly one, I was informed it will be £56 per month,GREAT!, but I honestly don't care just as long as they shorten the flipping thing, after several phone calls the way it stands is they are waiting to hear back from the Regional Manager and if I don't hear anything by Tuesday I will ring back this Kim Holland to find out whats occuring.

Check with Consumer direct or CAB etc. I would have thought you would have to agree to the T's and C's before you sign up.

I used to go to a leisure centre gym etc. and the few memberships I had, I always have been asked to sign a contract each time and was given a copy of the T's and C's I had signed for at the time of signing and paying the first month's fee.

There was a contract formed and wording linked to the direct debit too.

:hello: Right pmduk here's my update and hopefully the last.

Yipee! I did it! :j:j:j

After chasing the membership services up nearly everyday and the regional manager at my LA Fitness, I spoke to the original person at member services that I told my problem to and guess what! she let me know the regional manager at my gym agreed to change the length of my contract and put my on the yearly one;), I am over the moon as I didn't think they would do it as I did stupidly signed the contract in person at the gym, so now all I have to do is pay the extra £6 hopefully, that's what the member services told me anyway, when I go to the gym as my first DD came out of my account dead on the 5th August and then the next DD will be £56 per month and so on..

Yes I know its a bit more expensive but I feel a whole lot better and more comfortable with the year one, I will also find out about whether I am likely to get a new agreement stating this emailed to me as I still have the old one and they should issue me with a new one, but I truly hope that's a end to it.

This experience has truly taught me 'not to sign anything', as even though I got it changed in the end, what I should have done in hindsight is left with all the details to think about them over night even if it meant going back the next day and maybe I could of spared myself a lot of worry.

I would just like to thank everyone for there advice on this subject its much apprepriated. :T:beer: :kisses:

At the time of signing I didn't see any documents laying out the contract or Terms and Condition Luvcat until later on.

If you go into the LA Fitness gyms they have these Kiosks that outline the different memberships for you and you just do everything on a touch screen, yes I unfortunately did this, I went through the signing up process on the kiosk with the manager and signed the relevant bits and stupidly ticked the agree to Terms and Conditions box without actually seeing any paperwork, I later and embarrassingly realised later when all of this was done I choose the wrong membership as it was a little cheaper but it tied me up with them for 2 years.

Great result - being civil and polite really does prove to extract the best service from some companies.
