Lawn edging

I've never used a lawn edging, as I can't really see the edge. Most of my stuff grows over and I just run the lawn mower underneath.
I did once see a neat solution with no cost though. An old boy had the usual gulley between lawn and soil of the flower bed with the edge of the lawn at an angle of approx 45 degrees. He had then taken a builder's trowel and bucket ot water and gone around wetting and then smoothing the soil of the sloping edge until it looked like wet mortar. It was as smooth as the 'proverbial'.
Once dry, it seemed to repel water and not degrade. No doubt this all depends on the type of soil you have, but it certainly looked neat; if you like that municipal park look to your beds.0 -
What about using some decking, sideways??“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”
