unrecognised payment on Barclaycard statement.

Hi all,
On Saturday, I checked my Barclaycard statement, and found two transactions on there I didn't recognise, from the 15th July - 1 to Easy Jet for over £1000 (!) and 1 to T-Mobile.
Both were on the same day, and both transactions were done over the phone, so no PIN or signiture taken.
Barclaycard have been reasonable about it - they've suspended the payments whilst they investigate, and seem to think I won't be responsible for these because they were phone payments.
Talking to Barclaycard is a bit like talking to a machine...you know that if you say key words, it'll pick up what you want, but there is very little personal touch from them - hey ho.
Anyway, they're sending me a form to fill out, and when they receive it back, they will start investigating it.
This annoys me somewhat though - not only have I not yet got the form, so can't fill it out, I really feel that because it's an Airline ticket, surely a passport would need to accompany the travel, which means this thief is eminently catchable.
They don't seem too bothered about this - I guess to them, they just get Easyjet to pay them, but....some git's nicked my stuff! The robots at BC don't really get this, so I didn't labour the point.
So, do I also tell the police? I know I won't have to cop for any of this (hopefully!) but i want a bit of retribution! When I asked BC, they tell me I can do as I chose, but they won't be doing anything until they get the form back from me - in the meantime, Mr or Mrs Credit card robber is sunning themselves in Turkey!
GRRRR!

Something similar happened to me but its a easy and smooth process. You get the form; dont worry your accounts suspended if it still does not arrive ask them to email it if your desperate
. On the form there will be a section to place a crime report number; i advice you go to your local police station and ask advice weather to report the incident or not. I reported mine.
However once Barclays recieve the form, they work with the police and can simply catch the people by tracking the ticket number contacting Easyjet then 1+1=Passport details found and so on and then recover any costs.
In my case it was minimal sum and required allot of investigating so they didnt bother and credited the amount back on the account.

Yeh, I know I'll be fine, but I'm blummin annoyed about it!
I can't understand how it was done, if it'd been procured through a virus on the PC, you'd have thought it would be an internet transaction.
In fact, the card has only ever been used on Amazon, where i know it's safe, and through shops, but not many.
I'm just not confident that these things get sorted properly.
I imagine it'll go like this -
BC: Hey Easy jet, you took a payment over the phone from someone who had stolen someones card details.
EJ: Ahh, fair enough, how much do we owe you?0 -
I had a payment taken from a hotel I stayed at where the room had been prepaid in an Expedia booking. I had a bill to settle for £20 and I had to tell the same dizzy bint on the reception TWICE that the room was prepaid, and TWICE she agreed.
I complained to Barclaycard and I agree - the woman who I dealt with was simply awful. She decided that my card had been compromised, cancelled it leaving me with No credit card at all.
Then I got a letter saying that they'd looked into it (having suspended that transaction) and that because it was taken from the initial imprint, that it WASN'T fraudulent (I had never said it was - but that the dopey bat had charged me again for a room I'd paid for already!!!).
I had also contacted the hotel straight away (and as a platinum loyalty card holder) they immediately refunded the money. They also knew who I was talking about and promised to review procedures with her.
I have had a Barclaycard since I was a student.
I was appalled that the letter implied that "you might not remember making the purchase" and that they discontinued the suspension/investigation. If I had left it to them, I would owe £172.50 for a room I had already paid for.
I vote with my feet and having reviewed their laughable Rewards programme, I am now the proud owner of an Amex Platinum Credit Card as per MSE articles.
Strongly worded letter of complaint will be on the way to their Customer Services office. Not that they will care in the slightest!!!- Mortgage @ March 2008: £194,965 ; Lightbulb Moment: July 2011: £164,926; End Date: March 2033

My father had the same problem with the customer care, He called they asked him how old he will be on his next birthday he thought they meant how old he is so said his age. The guy on the phone straight away acused him as fraud then asked to answer this question:
What did you spend on the last week of may?
This was asked mid July. Now i cant remember neither could he. So they blocked the account.
Emailed David Chan CEO of Barclaycard got a phone call next day all resolved and £30 compensation0 -
Now that is a handy name to know

Nobody really cares about catching criminals these days. That way we don't have to worry about the expense of locking them up.0

I half agree, I'm not sure it's because they don't want to lock them up, but I think it's more that they're only bothered about catching them if they are directly paying for the crime.
Agree about the customer service at Barclaycard, it sounds like it's off-shored somewhere.
Not that that is always a bad thing - the Virgin off-shore Callcentre is better sometimes than the Uk ones..this isn't the case with BC though, they are very robotic.0 -

This is very true. I asked for the address to write a formal complaint and the guy was sticking to his script saying that he had made a note in my file and asking if he had resolved the issue to my satisfaction. He did this twice in a row. Irritating to say the least!- Mortgage @ March 2008: £194,965 ; Lightbulb Moment: July 2011: £164,926; End Date: March 2033

I smell a fish, as my latest Barclaycard statement also included a £1,000+ fraudulent transaction with Easyjet.0
