How to revamp old gold/brass plated lights?

Hi trying to referb my house on a buget - have some lights in the hall, quite nice sahades but the fittings are old rusted brass - any ideas how I can referb thease - paint suggestions that would be safe with an electrical fitment and over plating - Thanks

If they were brass they they would not be rusty, just tarnished and could therefore be re-polished quite easily. I suggest that you just rub them down with some abrasive paper to provide a key for the paint and then paint them whatever colour you fancy.I can afford anything that I want.

Just plated to be honest but I have found some appliance paint in dark pewter which I think will be great0
