How much do you pay for a vets prescription?

We have to get 2 lots of prescriptions from the vets for a long term health issue. It is SO much cheaper (around 50%) to buy both online, which will save us massively during a year. So we're going to get the prescriptions from our vets & then buy online, but they charge £13 a time for one, and then another £5 for the second one, on top of the usual charges for consulting time & tests. Just wondered how this compares with other vets as we've not done this before??

Ours was £12 for each prescription...didn't matter if it was more then once. It added up when our dog was on medication for a few years...I think you are getting a pretty good deal getting every second one cheaper!

£7.50 - it's just gone up from £5 which was a bit of a surprise!
  • £9.30 - and worth every penny!

I only get one item so not sure if they charge the same for additional things or less.

Our vet charges £10 but my brother tells me his charges £25  which is outrageous!

I make sure I get one repeat on it, which halves the cost. Even with the prescription costs, it is far cheaper to buy the tabs online than from the vet.

I have spent an awful lot of time sitting in the waiting room at our vets, and the amount of money going over the counter is frightening! I am sure vets bills have risen substantially since it became commonplace to insure pets.

Wow - when my Aunt ran out of pills for her dog [visiting from Holland] the vet insisted on seeing the dog even though Aunt had the packet and this was a 'life-long' medication her dog had been taking for a decade.
The vet charged £60 for a five minute consultation and prescription for two months' pills!

So what you've all been charged sounds very cheap to me!

Thanks to everyone who replied - it sounds as if our vets charges are pretty reasonable. Its not something we've done before (been very lucky so far & never needed long term medication for a pet) so we had nothing to compare it with, so your replies have been really helpful!
