Laminate - can you mark pencil on it?

Options
Hi,

I need to take all of the laminate up, and was wondering whether it is possible to pencil on it, with a view to rubbing it off later after the planlks have been relaid in their original order? :o

You could mark them on the underneath side.

How sensible! Many thanks - I'll try that. :j

Mark them on the upper surface no problem. It just wipes off afterwards. Use a soft pencil mind so you are not tempted to try and dig into the surface.

Did you lay it yourself? If not, are you sure it is the click together stuff and not glued? What about around the edges? Is it run under the skirting, or is there beading. If there is beading, is it glued or nailed into the skirting? Either way it'll be a !!!!!! to get off without cracking it.

Pencil should rub off with a rubber. Alternatively if you are concerned, try some masking tape on the boards then write on that.

Post-it notes should do the trick.

I'd have to agree with you sadly.
We took up some beautiful laminate floors as we wanted to replace them with solid wood.
There was so much of the stuff a friend was looking forward to re-using it all.
Even though it was the click together type we had a terrible time taking it up and there was a lot of damage.
It definately was'nt as easy to take up as we had assumed it would be.

I removed some click together stuff recently. There was no way it could be reused, even if I had wanted to.

Thanks everyone for you comments: It's click together stuff. I have to go through with it. I'll do it as neatly as I can, and then see if I can salvage any - even for another smaller room, perhaps.

I would suggest it depends on the manufacturer. We have twice had to lift large areas of Quickstep due to water leaks. The boards which were not damaged were relaid with no problems.
