Flies in vinegar??

Hi all,
I visited a Morrisons cafe day before last with a friend and had a meal. She used the vinegar that was on the table on her chips. After finishing, we were sitting having a chat and I noticed something black on the bottle, and looked to see what it was... it was a fly - on the inside! When I looked in the bottle there were 3 or 4 flies at the bottom of the bottle too. Looked at another tables vinegar and it had this too. They werent big flies, but little ones.
I took the bottle up to the cafe manager who said that 'this sometimes happens' and thanks for letting her know? I get the feeling she would just put the bottle back out when I went away.
I dont usually use vinegar so I wouldnt know, but is she right does this happen? To be honest I dont think it should be happening as I am well aware of the germs that flies carry.
Any suggestions?
Thanks all

what gave you that feeling?
I would imagine that most people would dispose of the contents and / or bottles.
If you are concerned then talk to local Environmental Health department.Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0 -
Unfortunately these type of flies (fruit flies probably) are attracted to vinegar bottles. So yes this does happen.0

Perhaps they were angry flies, with a chip on their shoulders?
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Yes, this does happen. I used to work in a pub and one of the jobs I was given was seiving all of the vinegar bottles to get the flies out and returning the vinegar to the bottles. Disgusting. Needless to say I never have vinegar unless it comes in a little sachet.0
