R03 - Exam

Hi,

Has anyone sat the CII R03 exam?

I have it in 3 weeks and I am struggling with the txt.

I have R01 and R06 but this one seems much tougher and only 1 hour to do it in.

Any hints or tips would be much appreciated.

Regards

Haven't sat that one, but I did sit J01 a while back, so feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions that might come up.

I obviously can't tell you how to learn, but I might be able to explain a couple of things here and there.

'Dave is about to make a donation of £2,000 to charity. In the tax year 2010/11 his income
is £60,000. What is the gross value of the gift to the charity if Peter makes a gift aid
declaration in respect of the donation?'

Grossed up i make this 2,500 however the answer is 2,564.

    Can you explain this please.

    cheers

Please ignore my stupidity, the question is for last tax year with the transitional 22% taxation in place 2,000 / 0.78 = 2,564

I like questions that answer themselves before I get involved :)

Just need to do some CPD for pensions. Either that or I just need to sit a pension exam next year. Probably diploma and advanced diploma units at the same time to make life easier.

I did R03 last year. I found it quite easy for information but the 1 hour timescale was difficult. If you get a lot of calculations you may well run out of time. Most I have spoken too have found time tight on it (although not all but then they may not have had the same number of calc questions).
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

Cheers both, I have heard timing is key to this exam.
  • I looking to do my JO1 (also RO1). Is anyone willing to pass on their study text for a small fee?
    Thanks
