Aditional life timee gurentee on car

I, on Monday the 25/07/2011 bought a car from Stoneacre, its on finance over 5 years. When buying it i took out GAP insurance and a life time guarantee. I have since been back to remove the GAP and lifetime guarantee because i need to bring down the monthly payment.

I was able to remove the GAP without problem but was told i could not remove the lifetime guarantee because it's neither a product or an insurance. I wasn't told the price of this guarantee until the time came to sign the forms after finance was arranged.

Is this correct? Do i have any rights in this situation, Thank you for any reply.

I would have though lifetime guarantee is the equivalent of an extended warranty which is still classed as a product.I think the finance are trying to fob you off.
  • Yeah essentially it is. It was aprox £1500 for ten years or 100,000 miles guarantee. It's supplied by the car company as i have to have it serviced with them every year to keep it up. Im going to get in touch with head office when it opens tomorrow

What does this guarantee actually cover? Parts and labour on everything or just major items like engine, gearbox and such?

  • Parts and labour on everything. (Except labour on the clutch for some reason). But it doesn't cover wear and tear such as tires, break pads etc.
  • I bought a Ford KA from Stoneacre 12 months ago with a "lifetime guarantee" - at the time of buying I was told this was free and would only cost the price of a service every year. I have since found out a service is £200 plus VAT and on checking my finance I have found I have been charged over £400 for this guarantee, which was supposedly free!!! I would never have taken it out had I known it was costing me - in fact with being on finance it will cost me over £700. Secondly they gave me a voucher which entitled me to 12 months car tax paid for by them, again this has been put on my Finance, costing me over £200 - I would never have put car tax on my finance deal. I am now going to pay nearly £1000.00 extra over the 5 years!! Can anyone advise if I have any right to claim being that I've had the Finance for 1 year on the 26th March, I know I've been naive, but I honestly did not see these amounts when I signed the finance and makes me wonder were they ever there on the copy I signed!!! Please help........
  • They told me it will cost £40.00 every time you have something fixed even if it's on a lifetime guarantee!!! They are con men of the first degree!!!

A clutch is a wear and tear item which is why its not covered.

Every item I've ever had to replace on all the cars I've owned since the mid 60's has been down to wear and tear. Strangely, I've never had to replace a part because, for example, it was superceeded by something better or because it changed colour!

I'm thinking of parts such as: brake discs, steering joints, track rod ends, universal joints, constant velocity joints, radiators, clutches, cambelts, etc, etc.

The reason I mention this is that every third party Warranty I've seen excludes 'wear and tear' ie EVERYTHING!
