Shed security

Hi - I have just had a new shed erected. Unfortunately they have put the hinges on the outside so security is very poor. I was looking at security screws but have no experience of them. Can anyone let me know if this is a workable idea or should I steer clear? Also, does anyone have a better idea. I don't think I can use bolts as the hinge hole would not allow the head bolt frame to apss through.

A shed (like any building) is only as strong as it's weakest point. You could spend £20,000 on titanium sculpted hinges and a kryptonite padlock but if the side of the shed can be gotten through with an axe then nobody is going to bother touching the hinges or lock.
The reality is that wooden or plastic sheds are not particularly secure in any circumstance.0 -
If this is the type of thing you are thinking off. They work inasmuch as they are easy to put in but can't be removed with a regular screwdriver.
As T_T says though, the shed is only as good as its weakest point. All they'll do is possibly slow someody down, but they don't cost much either.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. If hinge is on outside you can get hinges that are concealed

Just get two padlocks keyed alike, two hasp and staples and put on both sides of the door.0

You could get a hss drill bit and drill the head of the screws off so you cant unscrew them, just do it so that when you try to unscrew them the screwdriver slips.0

As has been said, most burglars would just jemmy a lock or a hinge off, or prise out the window to get in. You are as well just putting a bog standard hasp and padlock on, to deter the opportunists who come out without tools.

Our local police staion does cheap (less than £5 I think) shed alarms. They're motion activated and you put them on the inside of the shed. If you unlock it, you put the code in so the alarm doesn't go off, if your younger son crashed round in the shed looking for his toys, he sets it off...0

The hinges are the weakest point. The shed is constructed out of heavy duty logs and the windows would not permit appsage through as they are very narrow. That's why I wanted to get something done about the screws. Thanks all for your comments.0
