Working Tax Credit - Help

I dont get it. Last year we did ok for money, not brilliant but ok and they gave us 500 per month. Wife worked at the begining of the year.
That 500 was a god send. Now she wasnt working at the end of the year and will be looking after our new baby this year.
We have less coming in and becuase we did ok at the start of last year we will get 200.
If we struggle through this year we will be back to more next year. Its confusing. Is this right? Im truly confused.

  • Presumably you've done your renewal this year? If so, you would have been asked for last year's income and then whether there would be any change this year, check on your paperwork that they have the correct estimated income for this year. Was there any overpayment last year that they are now taking back through this year's payments? Also, to check whether you are getting roughly the right amount, pop your details into the benefits checker on the turn2us website :)
