Acceptable Repair time

My washing machine broke on the 18th July 2011. The repair man came on tues 26th july pm and advised it needed new parts, which were not available till next monday, 1st aug. Now had a phonecall that parts & engineer not available till next thurs 4th aug pm. And i cant use my machine in the meantime as the top wieghts have broken the drum...

Is there an acceptable timescale for repairs? Some help and advice wanted please...can i request a courtesy machine? lol

    Yes you can ask!...but your machine will be repaired/replaced before you get one.

    That's what i thought too....Not happy though with having to wait so long for the repair...am i within my rights to complain?

    Repairs unfortunately do take time. Anyrhing under 28 days would be reasonable IMHO. You don't need 'rights' to complain...just be factual/don't mention the children/don't get abusive and you may get somewhere.

    I'd say a couple of weeks from first visit to final visit is awkward, but not quite past what I would call reasonable.

  • I am just wondering. Similar thing happened to me.

    1. can the company agree a date, and then make you wait for that date then say no diffrent day?
    2. if the manufacture have the parts can you not pay the manufaturer for the repair, free parts only labour @ £80 hour. parts will be available in 2 days.

    You can ask if the retailer would be happy to do this but you have to give them the chance to do it first I think.

    1. Would you rather they turned up on the agreed date and said "We don't have the parts"?

    2. You could, but the retailer wouldn't be liable to reimburse you for the cost of the labour, so it would cost you £80 for the sake of a few days wait.
