Ford Fiesta (Diesel) - Clutch Replacement £500

Hi all,

My wife's Ford Fiesta Ghia HDi (Diesel) 03 plate needs the clutch replacing (and something else on the gearbox leading to the clutch).

I have been quoted £500 (down from £600) to get it done at a Ford Dealer with genuine part.

What is the average cost of getting a clutch replacement done at a Ford Dealer and also at a local independent.

Thanks.

AMO

Depends if the car has a DMF. Probably chuck a cheap clutch plate in and get change from £300 but how long
before the cover or slave goes?

One area where saving the last penny may not be the best option.

Well, this is the information I have been given:

    Clutch Replacement £643.06
Gear Box Torque Restricter £51.11 (do with clutch - no added labour charge)
Discs Front Worn change with pads £216.00
Nearside Headlamp motor running all the time head lamps are on
Front indicator bulbs starting to discolour
    £45.53 (both)
    Total: £955.70

Not sure if 2003 FORD DIESEL 5 DOOR HATCHBACK (FIESTA GHIA TDCI) has a DMF, but I can't find any reference to it.

£500 seems a good price to me for a Fiesta clutch replacement. That wont include the flywheel.
Ive paid a lot more on French cars before.

The DMF Flywheel is often a bit of a con trick to string another £500 from you then show you an old shredded one, when the DMF's do go on any diesel, you certainly know about it.

Front bulbs £45? £40+ too dear. Buy some from europarts or a motor factors NOT halfords and fit them yourself
    and save £40.

DMF's fitted to some fiesta's from 2002, So if that price includes the DMF its cheap for a dealer if its not included then
its too dear. Clutch centre will do the whole thing for that price.

Discs & pads £216 including labour and VAT? Knock £50 off for an independant garage to do the same job.

    Mount is about £40.

That bill cannot be far off the cars value. I wouldnt be taking a car that old to a dealer.

But paying £200 or so labour to change the flywheel soon after is not cost effective.

That's a terrible price for the bulbs though. Shouldn't be more than a couple of pounds if you fit them youself. Even if you needed to get Halfords to fit them for you it would still be much cheaper than that.

Ok, I got this diagnosis from a Ford Dealer:

    Costs (inc VAT)
    Clutch Replacement £643.06
Gear Box Torque Restricter £51.11 (do with clutch - no added labour charge)
Discs Front Worn change with pads £216.00
Nearside Headlamp motor running all the time head lamps are on
Front indicator bulbs starting to discolour
    £45.53 (both)
    Total: £955.70

However, I asked for a quote based on the above in red, and I got this from a local:

    Labour
    Clutch - assy Remove & Refit 199.80
    Flywheel/drive plate Remove & Refit 10.80
    Parts
    *621301133 3 part clutch 1.00 189.99 189.99
    *415018210 Single mass flywheel 1.00 319.99 319.99

So one will change the Gear Box Torque Restricter and another will change the Single Mass Flywheel.

Is it fair to say that if I get the clutch replaced, its in the same area as both the Torque Restricter and the Single Mass Flywheel and therefore both need to get done ideally to avoid a hefty labour charge in the same area?

What I don't get is that the dealer thinks that the Gear Box Torque Restricter needs changing and the local thinks the Single Mass Flywheel needs changing.

    Thanks,
