We have a mira electric shower - at the moment it won't heat the water up. When you switch it on the overheat light comes on and the water is cold.
I am a technophobe - can someone please tell me whether i need to call a plumber or an electrician?

I had the same problem with a Redring shower (water not heating and the overheat light flickering), after speaking to Redring technical support they suggested it was likely to be the Phased Shut-Down PCB. I ordered a new PCB and replaced it myself, very easy job. Ensure it is turned off at the mains.. £20 for the part.
Hope this helps.0 -

A plumber will usually tell you to replace the whole unit, an electrician will probably tell you to call a plumber.
Honestly, it's a straightforward task to take the shower off the wall, and dismantle it to replace parts. I did it with a replacement solenoid on our Mira. If it's a PCB, you may be able to replace it without taking the shower off the wall.
Consult the more specialised forums at http://www.showerdoc.com/ - they do parts by mail order, and will answer queries and provide tech help over the phone for you. I got my solenoid from them0 -
The op did say they were a technophobe and which did they need..
(I do know parts are easy to get and change but you have to be sure what part needs changing and it could be several, if they screw up water and electricity can easily = death!)
Op - I would go for an electrician, look for one that installs showers in their ad or ask 1st, (although some plumbers/heating engineers will know about the internals of a shower too.)0
