Buy it - it does not mean you are failing - you have the money it is not credit, it will not a make a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. You are in debt not prison you do have the right to enjoy yourself!
Just work out how many fish it will take to save the money - then bobs your uncle!!

I know what you're saying but I feel I'm not learning the lessons I should be!0 -
Have you exhausted all the options for getting it for less - ebay, freecycle, fishing friends etc....
If so, and if you want it, get it.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
If you have saved for it then get it. Just make sure you get it for the cheapest you can in true MSE style even if you have to ask for a discount!
I like SF description there. "You are in debt, Not in Jail I think I forget that sometimes as it certainly feels like a punishment and a life sentence rolled into oneOfficial DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -
SS - you have the money fair and square, you are not putting it on credit, it will give you pleasure, keep you from spending money down the pub and feed you!!
As others have said just be MSE about it and get the best price.

Just to add if you honestly feel that you arent learning ta lesson & you could hold on until your DFD then maybe it would be a good thing not to buy it. it certainly is another thing that you can add to the list of why you want to be debtfree.
I had the same type of dilemma a last year. I saved up for a year to build a new computer. when it actually came to the point of "splashing the cash" I thought maybe I should use on the debts. As my family pointed out I had saved hard and worked extra hours and sold a lot of items to raise the funds. We are all entitled to treats from time to time as long as you have thought the whole thing out.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 297 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts0 -
I've just read your last post on your debt diary thread! How you wanted May to be the month that sees serious debt busting, the month that sets a trend in seeing the debt go down......

I want to buy something for fishing that is gonna cost me about £400. Now I don't need it, but it will definately help me catch more!
I don't know whether I'm looking for peoples approvals or looking for people to tell me it's a bad idea.
I've wanted one for a long time now so it's not a whim (sp).
I have got the money for it if I was to purchase it. It just means it wouldn't go towards the debts and that makes me feel guilty! :undecided
I've wanted one for a long time too. But I'd use mine to stop the boy racers - not fish."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
