    I've got a dilema! :undecided

A mate wants me to rent with him. I really want my own place and space and love the idea. But 2 things stop me. Debt and paying someone elses mortgage.

My plan is to get my own place next year but I think I'm in cucoo land. By 2008 I hope to have all my credit card debt paid off with just the loan left of about £10,000!

If I stay at home I can pay more to my debt and be debt free sooner, but I feel like my life is constantly on hold! :(

But if I do move out I'll only be able to rent so am sort of throwing money away that could be going to debt!

For f*** sake why the f****** hell did I get into so much !!!!!!!

Firstly please stop being so hard on yourself as the level of control that you have gained over your finances is amazing and you should be really proud of yourself! :D

ext you have to think about how much you want to share a house with your friend. Are you good friends? Would you remain good friends when living in the same place? Would you be comfortable renting from a friend or can you see it changing the dynamic of your relationship?

If your top priority is sorting finances the room will probably be, or soon to be available in a years time, as sublet rooms have a notoriously high turn over of tennants.

You're still a very young man SS and have time on your side in terms of repaying debt and saving for a deposit for your own place.

If having your own place is really important to you then have a look around and see what say a studio in a cheapish area would be. Add on best guesses for council tax, water, gas, electicity and phone/bb to give a realistic idea of how much it'd all cost. Do the same for renting with your mateso you can compare.

It sounds as if you'd be happier living alone rather than with someone.....after all you can shout at family and be forgiven but living with a mate could ruin a friendship, especially if you have different ideas about what's acceptable mess.

Several times when you've been down it's been about feeling you've put your life on hold so perhaps it's time to fly the nest as you put it, giving yourself space and new possibilities. Yeah it might take a bit longer to pay off the debt but you'd be happier and maybe motivated in new ways.

Wow! People do take notice of the crap I write! :kisses3:

Well I'm not gonna do anything until the New Year. By then I'll only have my loan (hopefully). Then I can assess things and go from there.

I don't want to rent. But I guess I'm gonna have to weigh up whats more important to me and whether I will realisticaly (sp) be able to afford to buy anyway.

Perhaps renting won't be so bad anyway. It will give me a chance ot accumulate all the household things that I'll need!

I'm just gonna try and focus on this year, shifting the credit card debt and go from there. :)

I know people always say how well I've done but (I don't want this to sound rude :o ) I don't take much notice if you know what I mean. Because I've still got so much left to go I wasn't giving myself any credit. But do you know what? I looked at my list of debt totals since I started and I have done f***ing superb and I don't care if I am blowing my own trumpet. I'm gonna start giving myself some bloody recognition coz I've worked bloody hard for this. :D

Yes, you should give yourself recognition for doing so well, SS, and I'd be happy to blow your trumpet for you :D - (you can always rely on me to lower the tone...)

    Hi SS,

Don't post much but for what it's worth, you mention being quite particular about things, however much you want to fly the nest if your housemate doesn't share your ways it could cause you added grief. My feelings would be to hang tight there for a while longer until you can manage to go solo

I think the appeal of moving in with him is just the fact I can move out rather than that being what I want!

You are a young innocent lad - you're only 12 and shouldn't even be thinking of leaving home yet!

No one blows a trumpet quite like Louis Armstrong, so here he is, just for you.
