In fact far from 'robbing' the public, all the distribution companies have made a loss recently. Thats why most of the smaller companies who couldn't stand the loss have gone out of business. The market is now dominated by big companies who can afford to stand the loss as they are part of major groups.
There is little doubt that the companies would 'rob' us if they could however all gas/electricity price rises have to be approved by the Regulator.
Also if these companies start to make excessive profits, because the drop in wholesale prices is not being reflected in their tariffs, the Regulator can force them to lower prices - and will.0 -

If the energy had not neen denationalised then perhaps we would have seen the benefits sooner. I don't believe that whatever the supposed improvements we have gained since privatisation could not have been replicated if the utilities were still under state control and there would not be any shareholders waiting to take their cut out of an industry that is essential to the country.0
