Will we get any help?? WORRIED!!!

Hi just looking for some advice really so let me fill you in.....
Me and my partner are expecting child number 2 which is due in feb 2012. My partner is self employed and works 50 hrs a week at the moment, his weekly income is £340.00 and I work 16 hrs a week and earn around £95 a week. We have a claim running as it stands with the Inland Rev, our entitlement is a top up of £60 per week, some of which i believe is child tax credits for my 11 yr old daughter. My partner is concerned that he may soon run out of work and become jobless..we are both worried pretty sick about this and its sad because my partner really wants to work to support his family! I plan to try and work up until christmas this year and then take time out on maternity to have baby number 2. What I need to know is... If for example my partner falls out of work would we get any support with regards to income and rent if we only had my income to survive on? Until he found something else.. Understandably this is a worrying time for me, thats why I am here and unable to sleep! :(
Please advise!! _pale_

You may do. Put your earnings in the calculator WITHOUT your partner's current earnings (although put that you do have a partner) - do it as though he earns nothing at the moment to see if you would be entitled to anything.

Remember thought it is just a guide, but it will give you an idea. Obviously you won't get what your combined income is now, but you may be entitled to something.

OP please don't take this the wrong way but I find reading your post very hard on my eyes as it is big and too bold. You would be better to get the font size to normal and more may be able to read it easier and who may be able to offer help to your further posts.

I have just noticed (I think) have you updated your signature with a new sentence as below. Either way you are so spot on as there have been too too to many inappropriate posts so good of you.

  • Thanks Anubis for your advice, I'll certainly try that and see what it comes up with :) Sorry for the large font I was just trying to be noticed thats all.

From April next year you both have to work 24 hours a week to get working tax credit, with one of you at 16 hours.
You would get an increase in Child tax credit.
JSA for a couple is £105 a week so not worth you signing on for £10 a week extra really. As you already earn £95 a week.

No you need towork at least 24hrs between you with one of you working 16 (+) hours

quote - A couple are only able to claim Working Tax Credit if they work a minimum of 24 hours a week between them, with one working at least 16 hours

Do I need it? Can I afford it? Is it cheaper elsewhere?

What if just one person of the couple are working and they work 24 hours?

If your part of a couple then you have to claim as a couple, as long as between you you work 24 hours it will be fine. That could be one at 0hrs and one at 24hrs or 8hrs and 16hrs, doesn't matter as long as it's 24hrs and one of you do over 16, which at 24 you would be. If that makes sense :rotfl:
