Unusual ceiling wiring or a bodge?

Hi everyone. . .ok done the usual, bought a ceiling light, removed the old ceiling rose (which was so filthy I couldn't tell what wire colours they were!) and discovered 8 cables, in 3 sheaths. 2 pr black and red and 1 black and green, as below:
Here is the wall switch wiring:
and here is the light fitting:
is the ceiling wiring typical or bodged? I've trawled lots of ceiling wiring posts and i've tried several different permutations and altho I can get the light to work, I then lose power to the kitchen and bathroom lights! (they are both downstairs, under the room i'm trying to install the light.)
Can anyone please advise as i'm absolutely baffled. . .
Jus tried to post and told I can't post links. . .how annoying! I have links to the pics and I can't post them!

It's loop in at the ceiling - or a variation of
It's very common, not as much now as it's more common to loop in at the switch now

Hi Baldy (sounds a bit rude lol!),
Thank you for the reply, it is greatly appreciated
I am still unsure about the 2pr tho. . .black and green. . .where do they go? The switch wiring has black and red and no sign of green. . .do I treat the green as red? And there isn't an earth with that pair. . .0 -
I think you need to get a pro in because it is confusing as you have netural coloured wires that are actually live.0

do you have a pic of the original wiring?0

OP upload your pics to imageshack or similar then post the link the site gives you back here but delete the http part of the link befre you submit your post. Then one of us can fix the link to display the images here for everyone to see.
