Which magnaclean do I need?

Ok just want a piece of advice plumber recommended that I get a magnaclean for my cenral heating.

New boiler installed today. Setup is Valliant 615 boiler, 6 radiators, mostly hep20 barrier pipe under floor to and from boiler room to radiators. Copper pipe only used on boiler and water cylinder and short lengths on radiators above floor level.

Which magnaclean do I get the normal one or the micro or is there another product I should use.

  • Had BG round today to service the boiler the man rubbished my Magnaclean and said that they had had a lot of trouble with them. But he could come back tomorrow and fit a Spirotech filter for £260. So I went online and researched the two products, there were very few reports saying that there was a problem with Magnaclean but in comparison tests Spirotech only took out 4.9% whereas the Magnaclean took out 66.4% on the first pass.
  • Get Magnaclean Twintec its slightly more expensive but it has an added magnetic filter on it.
Better and cheaper than British Gas can supply the Spirotech.

    Costs about £125.

Of course he did. BG swapped allegiance when they got a better deal out of the one they supply now. Its the same with boilers. Next week it will be different.

    Cheers

  • My weapon of choice is the Fernox TF1. It's the equivalent of the twintech but I think it's better. I've seen the report on magnetic filters saying that Magnaclean are better. They would say that they payed for it.;)

I agree with zm99. I always fit the TF1 now.

Magnaclean is still the best at doing its job, but has had several issues with build quality and leaks.
  • I've installed magnacleans before only to be called back 2 months later because the they leak. I think they are made from glass-filled nylon and it appears that expansion and contraction caused by heating and cooling can loosen the lid. The valve connections are vunerable to. Any side load will cause them to leak. Not always easy to avoid if the unit is installed in a airing cupboard were it can get knocked.
