Well........... after a long day and a phone call to the car dealer. Of course a refund was out of the question but he said to take it back down and he would put it into the workshop. I did mention tradeing standards whilst on the phone, he got a little irate:mad: 'Don't you throw the TS at me, la de da de da......
I said I'd take the car down this evening, reply was, I won't be here. Ok, no problem, we will park it up by your house and put key through letter box:)
On arrival, my daughter parked the car and I asked her to pop key through letterbox. No doubt on hearing the ley drop, out he came.
Right, lets look at this thing, then and popped the hood:) Hmmm looks ok to me, the mucky stuff in thr water res' is normal for this age of car. I pointed out the VW that my daughter just sold was an older modle with same mileage and it was clear liquid, no grainy muck.
Well, he said he would test it and check head gasket, then said, hmmm, I'm a bit worried about that:cool:
Next thing he said, glareing at my daughter, in a not so nice tone 'Don't you throw the TS thing at me because, you can take this key and car and F off:eek: Boy was he mad!!
Hopefully the repairs will be done, our local garage said the 02 sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced. We mentioned that and were told, he doesn't do electrics. Anyway he will call us when it's ready, he said he will test it tomorrow, no doubt do the same as out local garage did. I am hopeing that any repairs he does we will be given something in writing, but I am not holding my breath!0 -
i kept out of this thread till most details were sorted
it now transpires you didnt buy it off a small dealer but someone who sells from home
i would only do this if searches proved he wasnt a man of straw, because lets be honest you pay home traders a premium to sort problems you cant,
this trader sounds a typical take the money and nothing else person
gives home traders a bad name and i know a few0 -

Hmmmmm, well, this faulty O2 emmisions sensor has really been playing on my mind today, more so since good ole 'Google' I read signs of failure, one of them being, the idle becomes erratic and the car stalls. Well, this jumped out at me a little, mainly because the car has stalled a few times without it even moving.0

Sounds like they have chucked some K Seal in it.
This is well known to be able to fix a lot of issues, though not for long, purely a get you home measure.
Dealer has stiched to up if you ask me.
As sb has said, he is certainly the kind of Home Trader that give the honest ones a bad name.
I have done some Home Trading now and again and would never sell a car that i wouldn't be happy to drive to Scotland in with the kids. Even if it meant not making a huge return.
Sometimes reputation is more important.
I suspect that the trader has been in trouble with TS before.
The very fact that he got abusive and threatening would give me good enough reason to contact TS anyway.

I contacted the TS a few days ago. Anyway, my daughter had a call Saturday morning from him (We took the car back the day before) He said it's ready to collect. Got down there, he had an invoice from a local garage, stating that the headgasket had been checked, no fault found. I mentioned again about the 02 sensor, he said, he looked at it and found a bit of dirt, cleaned it away and went on to say how much it would cost to buy a new one.
As of today, the EML has not come on. A friend is going to do a run on the car tomorrow evening (computer test) will also check Headgasket. If all is tickety boo, great, if not, we move onto our next step. I did check the water and oil and it looks like he has cleaned it up, not grainy deposits in or around water res' nor around oil cap etc.0
