Had MOT, on form stated this.
front constant velocity joint gator deteriorated.
near side outer
offside outer
Is this the same meaning as bull joints?
Can anyone explain this please?

From bull joint i'm assuming ball joint?
Search for a CV boot for your car0 -
the cv gaiter is fitted to the driveshafts (one inner, one outer per shaft), if you look behind the front wheels you will see a round shaft going from the gearbox to the centre of the wheel (each side) at each end there is a knuckle joint protected with a rubber boot which is cone shaped with round ribs along it which enable it to flex when you steer.
Inside the boot is a lot of thick dark grease to lubricate the joint. The boot retains the grease and protects the joint from dirt and damage.
They are sometimes tricky to change as you often feel like you need 3 hands, and are very slippery and greasy one the old ones have been cut off.
In a garage with a proper lift it would take around an hour to replace one side.
You did not state whether the vehicle passed or failed the MOT, if it passed and the cv gaiters were only advised, i would still change them as they will split and the grease could be thrown about by the rotation of the driveshafts and this could contaminate the brake linings and cause the brake efficiency to be severely reduced, or even cause failure.

thanks for your info, very helpful. It did pass the MOT, but we will save up the money so the garage can do it, we would not know how to our selves. Especially concerning now you mention of fluid can leak into breaks and they can fail etc. Years ago my Dad could fix cars he would have known straight away, but unfortunately he is sick now in care home with dementia. they can be replaced by a competent DIY mechanic with a reasonable tool kit, but it is a dirty job. I would recommend a small independant garage for a job like this as the main cost is the labour, a pair of gaiters could be purchased for less than £20 if you shop around:A R.I.P.
