My current mp3 player is bust. It was a cheapy Curtis but was compact and effective for walking and working out in the gym. I want to treat myself and have looked at the Sony W series but on several forums there are conflicting opinions on how good/bad it is. I want to pay upto £50. Any positive suggestions please?
    Thanks

I've never had a problem with Sony, they seem the least likely to break down and the most reliable when it comes to battery power (bar the ipod which seems to last longer). I have had issues with Sony Ericson mobiles in the past and for that reason would never opt for another (mainly software issues when trying to transfer data to computer) but I've no idea if that was my (Dell) computer of the phone.

As far as Sony Walkmans go they have never given me problems (save for the W202 which did have known water-proof issues which they resolved with the updated models) and are a breeze to use.

I currently have the Sony W252 mp3 player and also have the A828 (*I think!*) wirefree player, drag to drop make it very easy and compatable with WMP on my computer (the same Dell) and sound quality has no problems. Only hang-ups I'd have would be over price (they do seem to always cost more then other brands) and the pause you get between tracks which is non-deletable. Irritating when you have a constant stream of music across several tracks, but otherwise, all good.

I own an IPod shuffle and a sony walkman nwz and I've also had a nano in the past. Purely for sound quality the sony beats the others hands down but I would advise picking up a decent pair of head phones because the ones you get with the MP3 player are poor. I've given the shuffle to my son - I much prefer the sound quality of the sony
  • Another Creative Zen fan here... Solid, reliable, excellent sound, and well priced. What more do you need? (I can hear a voice at the back shouting "Apps!", but it might just be my fifth cup of coffee doing strange things to my head).

    Your options:

    1) Pay through the nose for an apple product which often has inferior sound quality to its rivals. But you will be "cool"

    2) Save money (the purpose of this site), and buy one of highly recommended rivals such as a creative player (I have one and its great).

    3) Just use your mobile phone - presumably you have a smartphone, and they can all play mp3's.
  • I just brought an mp3 player from argos for £12.99...It is a 2GB and holds upto 500 songs, its small and light. I also got some skull candy headphones which were half price(but you can get some panasonic headphones for half price when purchasing an mp3 or ipod from argos). I use the mp3 player in my car too!

That was my bargin of the day!!:j

Apple doesn't have inferior sound quality these days - most all decent players will sound the same.

I have 2 Creative Zen, my first is some years old and still gives good service, I just needed more capacity and video. No complaints with either of them. First thing I did was replace the headphones, I don`t like the in-ear type. If I were to buy again I stick with Creative.
