Travel insurance expiring

Hi there,
Just after some quick advice. My travel insurance (annual) is going to run out halfway through my next holiday. Do I need to buy new insurance prior to my departure or can I put the start date as the date my current insurance runs outs?
I think it is the first option but just trying to save some cash.
Thanks
Andrew

if you buy from the same provider, your new policy will just follow on. If you want to switch, you'll have to make the start date earlier0

If you can check online, you may find that the insurance is automatically renewed, especially if you paid by card. Probably best to ask this question of the insurer though, the premium may have gone up more than you like and you may want to consider different insurers.
Just one thing, I'm fairly sure (though not certain) that you need to be in the UK when your insurance starts. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
You do need to be in the UK when the insurance starts so your best option would be to get a policy to start on your departure date. Your current insurance will cover you for cancellation up to that date.0

if you renew an annual policy with the same provider, you DON'T need to be in the UK when it starts, I checked this when my annual policy was due to run out in the middle of a long-haul holiday last year0
