Hypno is a wise woman. Try to keep an eye on the big picture. We all have slow times - hope yours picks up soon.

The big picture isn't too pretty. This whole year has been one of backsliding and running to keep up. The dispassionate judgement would be "still not solvent", I think.

The first year of this diary I had some good paying jobs and paid off £12k. But failed to save for tax.

The second year, I earned less, had to borrow more at times, and have reduced my debt by less than the repayments on my one loan. Meaning other debt (overdraft and credit cards) is higher now than in January.

Paying tax due in January will take me back to the debt level of about October 2007.

    Time to do something different.
    Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.62

If you have the scope to take on better paid consultancy work, then it would be a real shame not to. I'm terrible for not believing in myself, but I keep telling myself that I'm not stupid, I'm hard working, and there is no reason why someone else would be doing a better job than me - and if my clients keep coming back, that must mean something!

You mustn't sell yourself short - keep pushing forward, we've all got faith in you!

Absolutely - what is there to lose from having a go? There seems to be potentially lots to gain. You can do it.

Seaxwyn - the situation is getting critical - because I can't see that you have a contingency plan for meeting your tax bill_pale_. hyno is right - the big picture is that you have managed to massively reduce your overall debt. But the old cash flow thing isn't working very well. I haven't known you as long as the others - so I don't have all the history - but, objectively, it would seem you might be, like me, in a debt crisis - and need help to manage your debts. If your income is not meeting your priority debts (which tax is, I think) then you will have to sit down and work out a new plan. You are managing your debt yourself at the moment aren't you? Do you think there would be a case to offer reduced payments to your creditors - so that your priority bills can be met? A new SOA for your experienced friends to look at? Maybe you could start again from the beginning - new debt action plan?:money:
Will keep my eye on you! :heartpuls

Your numbers are bigger than mine - but the principle is the same, I think - even though I have received a lump of money which I can use to pay off my debts - my income/outgoings status is still pretty grim - and I am going to have try very hard to budget - very difficult!

Hey Seaxwyn - if you haven't already done it - it might be good to make a BIG mug of tea and take a packet of biscuits and sit and re-read your whole thread - seems to me there are comments and suggestions at the beginning that would help you pick yourself up and get into gear again. LOLxxxx

Seaxwyn, I don't know what the answer is for you - I can see that you may need to do some reassessing - but I can also see that we all have slow patches, as Hypno says.

And the third thing I can see is that you're intelligent, and motivated, and that if you keep on thinking about this, looking at it from different angles and not just (as the NLP folk say) "doing what you've always done" - well, then, you'll get something different from what you've always got. You have confidence issues with the consulting, and from reading my diary you *know* I've had confidence issues with the trading that are only just being sorted this last two weeks .... so, I guess if I'm saying anything, I'm saying, keep going - you have the energy, the motivation, the sense to do this, to find a way forward that will satisfy you.
