  • Wow, great news! Have you thought about how much renting a room and the commute would cost though - it might cancel out a lot of the increase in salary depending on where he would have to rent etc. If you factor in all the costs involved then you will have a clearer set of figures which might help the decision?

Wonderful to have the choice. Do you have a gut dfeeling, both of you? Would the travel be sustainable? The f/t job sounds like a wonderful opportunity but if it would only last a few weeks/ months due to exhaustion then the other job makes more sense.

I'm sure youll both make the right decision.

    Hi Sea
I saw on your taxi's thread that you were going to apply for the card. So well done on doing it and getting accepted:beer: Definitely worth a little tipple to celebrate.

(off topic I got 63% for my essay, not bad but must do better on the next one:rolleyes: Still I am ahead with the reading for this one at the moment!)

Ref the two job choices. Erm please don't take this the wrong way BUT, someone mentioned that the cost of renting a place and the extra commuting might put more of a dent in the extra wages than the inconvenience is worth. But from what you have said about your OH, could you trust him to stick to a budget on the nights that he is away. I am really sorry to say this but the extra pay wouldn't be worth it, if say he ate out all the time or went to shows or something, and put it all on the credit card. I really hope that I am wrong, and I didn't really want to mention it, but you have mentioned before about your OH lack of 'thinking of the consequences' when it comes to money.

    Sorry if I have offended

you might find travel and running "two" houses might eat in to the profits.
it might make family life difficult too.
what a pity its so far away. personally I would be tempted to go for the nearer job, and try and top up with extra work while the kids are young. tough one!

he's obviously got skills that employers are looking for - maybe something else will come up closer.

Thanks everyone. I think gut feeling is to stick with the more local job but we will mull over the options a little while longer. It's been wonderful for him to have the options and feel valued and employable.

Chev well done on your 63%!! Good luck with the next essay too.

It is DS's 6th birthday today so excitement levels are high. And I've just received an email to say I've won a £30 voucher for Masala Zone Indian restaurants - my first win in a while and what a nice prize!

New month, new look MSE, new kick-!!! attitude. Well that's the idea.

I received my Egg card today so will update my sig once I've BTed debts around.

I was planning to transfer OH's loan onto it but am having a little wobble over whether that's a good plan. It would be yet again transferring a debt in his name into a debt in my name. He does seem to have had an attitude shift but can I be sure he has really accepted the need to pay the damn thing off before this time next year when the interest jumps up sky high?

    Other DFW things....

OH paid the Council Tax today and paid £68 off my Priority 1 Abbey CC. I'm hoping he's accepted in principal that he's got to give me the money for the mortgage in June as well.

He's also agreed to pay for all the food (but is not open to any challenges and thinks £110/week is a reasonable amount to spend!)

This is quite a lot of progress really.

He's also talking to both prospective employers (see posts above) to find the very best deal he can get, and it even seems possible that the nearer college might take him onto the payroll. I'm impressed by how he's dealing with this.

Bizarrely, I got offered a job yesterday too. Someone rang from the local council offering me a full-time job for six months (I did a temp job there last year). I said no, as I really don't want to work full-time. But I realise that having thrown away such a gift, I have to make at least as much money from freelancing.

Finally, I picked up ten boxes of books today from a local college library - thanks to Freecycle. I'm working my way through listing them on Amazon and am bracing myself for the inevitable dumping of the dross on poor Oxfam tomorrow. Both book banks in this town are full to overflowing. I feel so guilty about using Oxfam as a waste disposal service I actually bought 3 books from them this afternoon.

As usual I've gone on too long, will get back to my listing. Anyone fancy Anodic oxidation of Aluminium and its Alloys?

HI Pania, I've listed 70 books already following that method. I can't imagine they'll be fast sellers though - they're mostly engineering textbooks from the 80s hmmmm am I wasting my time?
