Now come along you lot, surely you have better things to be doing than being on MSE

I see lots of green lights still on.

As for me, well, I only have washing, ironing, general housework, paperwork, advertising, prep for next week, nagging of children, digging of garden, and a couple of other minor tasks to do. All of these can wait for just a couple more minutes don't you think!

I was going to say get off MSE but I'm ploughing through an essay and I'm still here... oops!

Seaxwyn I just wanted to say I've read your diary through just now (it's a really nasty essay I'm avoiding :rotfl:) and you're doing so well, keep it up and keep off MSE!

Hi Sea, I note the green light is still on.

On a dismal note (tax)....when is your year end?
If, like mine it is 5th April, then if you get your accounts done and the tax calculated, you will know if there is going to be a balancing charge for 06/07 and what the actual payments on account for 07/08 will be.

Don't know if this will help the cashflow or not, but it help to clarify things for you.

(now for the tricky part, if only I could follow my own wonderful advice and get my accounts done)

    Hi all

Glad that my diary provided some distraction for my fellow procrastinators. Good luck with those essays chev and tumbleweed.

The comments about my green light mystify me as I was not on here - honest!! Maybe it's a tabbed browsing thing, if you close the tab but not the window the site doesn't notice and the green light stays on

But I didn't get much work done as the kids were scrapping and I had to take DS out.

Chev, yes I do just pay the minimum on ccs 2&3, with the aim of paying any extra off no 1. I'm going to transfer some of that onto CC3 before the interest rate rises as well. CC3 (M&S) goes down fastest as the minimum payment is 3% of balance. With CC1 it's only the interest plus £5 - so paying min payments only it would take 99 years to pay it off! Scoundrels!

The real situation is more complicated than the signature shows. OD1 doesnt stay at 0 - £530 goes out of that account every month so I am constantly having to top it up to keep out of overdraft. Also there are OH's CC and current account which I have to keep an eye on. Keeping all those accounts in credit is about all I can manage and most months I haven't paid more than a few pounds over the minimum on the Abbey card.

Phew - sorry for long ramble there.

Whatwit - yes my tax year ended 5 April too so I want to get my accounts done asap. I have added up my earnings, just have to do my expenses. Shall we set ourselves a deadline, maybe we can encourage each other to get down to it?

Sounds good to me....although you are further on than I am.

My accountant will have heart failure if I turn up before January with my books.

Well mine was quite easy as half my earnings were PAYE last year so I have a P45 for that. I do have an envelope bulging with train tickets and receipts though that's just too daunting to open.

Do you two find accountants useful? I sometimes use one, who's a friend and only charges me £75, but I can't say she actually saves me money as she just uses the figures I give her. Last year I did it myself, but I don't really trust the tax office to work the figures out properly.

I only use one...they need to be honest as it's a bad thing if the tax office spot anything untowards as the tax office can then check 7 years of books...mine costs £150 for 2 self assesment tax forms and one partnership form...I just sort everything into monthly statements and receipts (i use those see throgh thingys).....get 2 sheets paper one for incomings and one for outgoings and he does the rest!!!

The site can't tell what you're doing with your browser, so the green light stays on for 15 minutes after you last page download.
