Lovefilm Cancellation

Just called up Lovefilm to cancel due to an overseas move. I'm on the one disc at a time, 2 discs a month package. I have one disc here.
When I cancelled he told me I'd need to send the current DVD back. Then he said, 'And they've just sent you out another disc today'. He told me this was a 'bonus disc'. My account shows it 'dispatching soon'. I spoke to several people and they all said the same thing.
I told them I didn't want this disc, it wasn't part of my package and I didn't want to be responsible for it. But they said they can't stop it and they won't cancel till they get it back.
This means it will end up here, will get redirected overseas and then I'll have to get it back to them while paying them to continue the service....
Am I really to believe that this was just coincidence that a bonus disc got sent out today, the day when I canceled? (I didn't check the account before I phoned up so unfortunately I have no way of knowing, and I remember now from canceling before that I should have emptied the list before calling up).
Can I still be held liable for the disc even though I've told them I want to cancel and I don't want it and it is, strictly, still in their possession (even if in some 'warehouse' part of their system)?

They've given me three bonus discs recently, want to keep me sweet for some reason, so it could just be a coincidence.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Hmm - maybe. Would have been grateful if so, but turns out to be annoying and possibly going to cost me something I didn't want to pay, which doesn't really seem fair!0 -
cancel the card they take payment from (shouldn't really be an issue if you're moving overseas anyway), and put in writing to them that you are cancelling from today's date, the one disk in your care (as per your package) is on its way back and no further disks are to be issued. If they've opted to send you something you didn't request, I'd take that as unsolicited goods, if you happen to receive it then you can just return it as and when its convenient (if at all).
I had a nightmare cancelling with them too.Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
ive never had a bonus disc just sent out -it shows as a credit on your page that you request when you want it.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

I cancelled my card with them once, they started sending me letters saying then were gonna send debt collectors round, I added new card details to the site and then phoned to cancel and they said they had taken payment for the month so I would have to wait to cancel.
I cancelled the dd again and sent an email complaining about their service, they cancelled my account straight away.0 -
I cancelled my 'free' 3 month trial with them a few weeks ago, basically the 1 disc i actually wanted from them they never actually sent me in the whole 3 months, It really was hard work getting them to cancel the account, the women simply wouldn't accept it, she kept on trying to tell me to go onto to a cheaper package (whats cheaper than 'free' ??! )
I had to be pretty blunt and say they were rubbish before she finally said the account would be closed.
I would phone up and go ballistic at them and tell them you are not responsible for any discs they have sent you that you didn't request.0 -

I found I had to add about 20 discs to my list before they'd start sending me any, and I still never actually got the ones I really wanted; even after paying for it for monthsNever argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.- Mark TwainArguing with idiots is like playing chess with a pigeon: no matter how good you are at chess, its just going to knock over the pieces and strut around like its victorious.0 -
To get the ones you want, you have to manage your list carefully.
You get to categorise them as high priority, med priority or low priority.
I've never been sent anything from my low priority list, I leave them there as a reminder that I want to see them some day.
High priority - if the disc is available, this is the list they will send from.
Med priority, - they send from here if none of your high priority ones are available.
So the trick is to keep only a small number in high priority - I only have max 5 in there at any one time and nearly everytime I get one of those 5 sent through. Then the others I'm quite keen to see I keep in medium priority but only another 10 or so. The rest I leave in low priority. It does mean you have to review your list quite often but it only takes a minute. Otherwise if you just click 'rent' and don't bother rearranging the list then everything is put into medium priority as a default. So if you have 30 films in there, of course you probably aren't going to get the one you want most urgently.Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

How close to leaving the country have you cancelled Lovefilm?
If they've sent the disc it should arrive in the next day or 2. Pop it in the post and job done0 -
the discs do tend to turn up quite quickly so you should have time to send it back. if you want to cancel I'd delete everything in your rental lists so theres nothing showing to be sent out, and as soon as the "bonus" disc gets back ring up to cancel.0
