Extra/early tax credits

Hi there, i get both working and child tax paid into my bank every monday. I have checked my online bank account today to find that i have had 2 child tax payments both a different amount to usual and 1 working tax payment.

Was wondering if this had happened to anyone else? Is it down to a bank holiday or will these be what they owed me for their tax year?

Thought id see if it had happened to anyone else before giving them a ring to see why.

Have you just recently renewed your tax credits?

Most people find that when they renew their claim the system throws out a couple of random payments. These are just payments that you are owed and are nothing to worry about as your awards paperwork will follow soon after explaining the new weekly amounts you are due.

If you have NOT just renewed then I cant explain the extra payments and would advise you to ring the tax credit helpline for an explantion.

Yes we have just renewed, so was hoping it was down to this. Im just on the phone waiting to speak to someone now 12mins a counting eeekkk to double check as id hate to spend it and then have to pay back also wasnt sure if id still get my normal payments on monday aswell as these x

I think you will get Mondays payment as normal . As I say , any time this has happened to us the payments have been "balancing" payments for the previous year (so money owed to you from your LAST award) .

Hopefully you didnt have to hang on the phone too long to get speaking to someone to put your mind at ease.

I've just checked my bank and the same has happened to me 2 child tax payments of different amounts and a working tax payment. I've also recently renewed my claim about 4 weeks ago. Does anyone know if these are balancing payments so to speak or if theres any other reason for these payments? Before I make the painfully long call to the tax credits helpline lol.

I got an extra payment today - I renewed last week. My daughter also got an extra payment and she renewed the week before.

If you are worried about it, put the money aside. I wouldn't bother phoning Tax Credits because it costs money and time!!

Random payments are perfectly normal in the first few weeks after renewing tax credits. It is something that a lot of people get.

Personally I wouldnt bother ringing tco to ask about any unexpected payments as they WILL be owed to you.

The paperwork will follow in a few days and will show all of these payments you have recently received.

We got this too, about £850 in total which was a total bonus!

Mine were extra payments and he went on to tell me that i would still be getting my usual monday payments and told me the new figure.

However ive gone the bank again today "im a little obsessed with checking it":o checked pending payments and have another one of each due in the morning both a different amount to what i was told! Lol.

So not really sure whats going on?? If these are extra payments then in all nearly £550 worth of owed payments, nice little surprise and in time for both mine and ds2's bday weekend :cool:

this link i found tells me that my early payment is because of the scottish bank holiday...even though i live in england ;-(.... wish it was an extra payment for me

go to hmrc website tax credits and search for bank holiday payments...this should tell you the dates and the explanation itself
