Maternity Pay

Hi
this might be in the wrong forum but any help would be appreciated.
My wife works for my limited company but has been on Maternity leave for since the May 22nd 2011.
Now because my company pays less that £45k in NI a year we have opted for received the Maternity Pay as lump sum up front.
HMRC 'sent us the cheque' on the 24th June but no sign of it yet. I have rung up six times in the past two weeks and now been told that the department that deals with it won't be able to issue a new cheque until it has completed its investigation and then it will take 15-20 working days. This means we wont receive the money until October and we need it now.
Has anyone got any advice about what I can do to speed this up. I have been calling the main call centre but apparently it delt with in the accounts office who I can't talk too.
