Seeking advice on searching for cheap hotels

Afternoon all
Me and several friends are going to London for 3 days in September and we're hoping to find a cheap yet quality hotel, however I do know this is a stretch alone and never mind the fact its London. Basically we have been searching the internet for hours and we seem to be pretty much all over the place, I'm hoping for anyone experienced in hotel searching can give me tips/advice or websites to use or basically any knowledge you can offer in looking for cheap hotels !
If anyone is interested in my issue and wants to offer hotel searching assistance, we are all really hoping to stay at Earls Court, if that's not possible then we can take a hotel that's close to the Underground
We do know of Hostels, and while they are cheaper and simpler we are all aiming for a more quality trip than saving a bit of cash.
We have looked at dozens of hotels so far and while some of them originally looked interesting.. there was always some silly downside or small catch, some examples are hotel search sites showing cheap hotel rooms per night, but when you actually get through the site to book it infact only meant for that one day, and the other 2 days were double the price or something ridiculous.. Or even when we had enough of all the rubbish we looked at we thought lets just go to Ibis, its expensive but the website stated it had 4person rooms for an "ok" price (split the cost between the 4 so it was fine), though that of course was a let down because just before we were going to book it suddenly said only 3person rooms existed and wanted us to buy 2 rooms instead!

Thanks for the reply, and the lastminute idea! I looked extensively on lastminute, the website is lovely and easy to use! unfortunately though I wasn't able to find a suitable hotel

Earls Court has a number of small hotels and B&Bs, these are not always up to scratch so I would go for one of tthe chains, which should not be that much more expensive. I'll PM you a hotel that you need to avoid at all costs.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Etap.com (mercure chain) has cheap rooms - sleep 3 = 1 double bed & a bunk bed over head - small, but has loo & shower, clean & cheap. Nearest in London is London airport 11 miles but is £47 a night for the roomOur Family Motto ~If all else fails - read the instructions...

The only place you are going to get a 4 person room in London is at a Hostel/ Dormitory style. I once stayed in a Travelodge in London as a single person & got a room with 2 double beds.
You could try the Ryanair site for accomodation but 4 people in one room is not going to be available in a hotel. Send an email to London Tourist Info & let them give it a go. www.visitlondon.com.
Earls Court is also fairly Bland.
