Boiler service of new boght house

Hi, everyone,
I just bought a house last month with a boiler installed last September. The vender told me the boiler still has one year guarantee untill October 2012.
But I called the install company another day and was told I can't get any service free from the company any more since the house has been sold.
I am wondering whether it is true or just depends on the terms and conditions between the vender and the install company.
Thanks in advance

Do you mean it got free servicing and it's due a service?

Or are you hypothetically asking that if there's a problem, you won't be covered under the guarantee?

Or is there actually a problem with it that needs sorting out now.

Depends on what the paperwork says, I believe. Although if the vendor has stated in writing that there's a guarantee till October 2012 and that is not the case you may have a claim against him.

A guarantee period for the boiler is not necessarily going to cover the cost of routine services I would have thought.
  • Thanks for everyone.
Actually there is no problem for the boiler.
I am just wondering whether I should buy boiler service from any energy company at this moment.
I assume I automatically get one year free service like yearly gas safety check or maintenance in case a boiler breakdown from the installation company since the guarantee expire in October 2012.
However the installation company told me I am not allowed to get this service free since the house ower changed.

Personally I'd phone up British Gas/similar and get onto their boiler cover service. It's about £12/month and the first thing they do is give it a service and then you're on their books.... £12/month and you get a free service annually too.

Much easier/quicker/cheaper than chasing round trying to work out who should be paying for what. Initial boiler check is free.... then just £12/month. Bargain.

I dont have a link but there is a company called

    Dial a rod home cover

that does boiler cover for less than half of what BG charges.
    Try googling it.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Why do you think you will get " one year free service like yearly gas safety check"?
A (two year?) guarantee on a new boiler simply says "if the boiler breaks down in the 1st/2nd year, we'll fix it".

But they won't service it, or do an annual gas safety check!

However I expect the guarantee is transferrable to you so you are covered IF it breaks down. You could/should check this.
