Can you use a CC to pay off OD

Hi,

Sorry I am a newbie, maybe a silly question, but just been sent my new 0% for 2 years on BT by Barclaycard. I have transfered over my other credit card but have an OD with BoS that charges me £30 a month interest (or one pound a day).

I have two questions, if I were to walk into BoS and ask to close down the account and pay off the £1750 and use the new Barclaycard to do it would it be seen as a purchase by Barclays, as I have 3 months 0% before it moves to 16.9%.

Second question, am I right in saying that 16.9% on £1750 is approximately £22.98 a month, which is still cheaper than my BoS charge?

Hope someone can help.

You can't do it with a barclaycard (as a BT or purchase)

There are a few cards that allow you to do a transfer to your current account - these are known as super transfer cards, or money transfer cards - a list of them is here - http://www.stoozing.com/sbt.php

  • Oh ok, thats dissapointing, I figured they would just treat it as a purchase if I stuck it in the chip and pin at the bank. Back to the drawing board then! thank you.

No. Usually they either it won't let you pay it off with a CC at all - or it would likely be treated as a cash advance by the credit card company.
