49 in a 30 limit I’d say he’s got no chance of getting a speed awareness course, in fact I’d say it’s borderline for a trip to the magistrates rather than fixed penalty

Oh I do hope not :(

Edit: Also, depending on the road 49 in a 30 might not be so bad. You say 30 and people immediately assume "residential area" but it could have been one of those stupid 30mph dual carriageways with barriers either side, at 3 in the morning and with overgrown hedges obscuring the limit reduction.

It was the middle of the day on a quiet road near the city centre of Manchester.

He's outside the latest, increased, guidelines for the offer of a speed awareness course, which are 9mph over, plus 10 per cent.

Or possibly 10 per cent plus 9mph over, but whichever way you do the arithmetic...:)

Yeah, we pretty much realised that within an hour or so of getting the notification through. I suppose we can only hope its 3 pts & a £60 fine. He's certainly learnt his lesson though!

If it's his first offence he may just be offered a place on a speed awareness course in place of a fine/points.
I attended one last year and it cost £85 but meant that my licence was still clean.
My bad! I didnt read the speed he was caught doing.

Ahh, ok that's possibly a bit worse then, depending on the road in question.

Don't worry about all the people saying it will go to court. It will not go to court. The default action is 26mph over the limit = court and this doesn't vary like speed awareness does.

It can be varied at the officers discretion (e.g. if you were seen driving like a nob as well as speeding) but that doesn't apply here as it's a camera offence, so it will just be shoved into the system and processed automatically. 19 over the limit = COFP.

Since he currently has a clean licence, it won't even affect your insurance by much, if at all.

Oh thank you for that. I was really beginning to panic then! He doesn't tend to drive like a nob thankfully!

Even if he was driving like a nob. The camera can't tell that, so you're still fine*! It would only be varied like that in a situation where you were pulled over by a proper police officer.

    *Pun not intended

Not too long. There is no set time, but expect something back within a month.

Well speeding is subject to limitation of proceedings to therefore there is a set time. Within 6 months.

    It's more complicated than that.

They have 14 days to send the NIP to the registered keeper, the RK has 28 days to respond and then they have 28 days to respond to that.

There is an overall time limit of six months for the camera partnership to serve papers to the Court, but the Court may well take a long longer to actually issue a summons.

In this particular case though, the paperwork has been sent back, hopefully there is some proof of postage, and there will be a response within 28 days of receipt, so whoever said a month back on page one is correct here.

You did get proof of postage, right?
