Halifax Ultimate reward phone insurance

Hello,

has anyone got any experience with halifax ultimate reward phone insurance?
i pay £12.50 for my account and am also paying £12 orange care for my iphone. Im wondering whether to cancel my orange care and register my phone with halifax phone insurance. I know that orange care is good [my experience has been] and will probably deliver me a new phone the next day if lost or stolen, but i like to know if the halifax insurance could in any way compete.

Anyone got any experience or made a claim for an iphone?

thank you

London General Insurance are the underwriters for the product. Never had a policy with them personally but have worked for clients who sold their products so knew a few of their guys. They are fairly middle of the road in terms of quality of cover but you really need to read the policybook to make sure it has the level of cover you require.

The only thing that tends to vary between insurers is how strict they are on the "reasonable care" element and that is more closely related to the relationship between the insurer, administrator and the seller (ie Halifax) than who you are or what you "pay" for the product.

Unless Orange care have any extra cover features you like I would question the sense of having two policies given you can only ever claim on one.

I believe the URCA iPhone excess is rising to £100 in September.

Shockingly just in time for the iPhone 5 if rumours are to be believed.

Shocking also the number of phones that will be dropped down stairs just after the new phones launched too ;)
  • Thanks for your help.

The amount i'm going to have to pay to have the "privilege" of this account is increasing too, to £15pm. So £15pm minus £5 for sticking 1k in equates to £120 per year for the benefits - AA roadside, phone insurance etc.

The way i see it is i've never lost a phone in my life, so the chances are slim that i will and have to pay out the £100 excess with halifax, but i'll have probably saved that £100 or much more [by the time i claim] by cancelling my orange insurance. If i don't lose my phone for say another 2 years, i'll have saved quite a few pounds by canceling orange ins - £288 to be exact.

Think i'll register it with halifax

    thanks
