My friends jst completed her 1st yr at uni (Nursing - Adult) and has found out shes pregnant!..
Anyone hav any ideas what they will say to her?.. will she have to leave?
And she recieves a bursary.. if she had to leave and started again.. would she be able to claim for this again..
and would she be able to start from 2nd yr?
If anyone can help it would be great.. she doesnt wnt to mention to anyone at uni as she is petrified.

You can now get paid maternity leave while doing a nursing course (I think it is 6 months, but it may be rising to 9 in April), most unis will allow her to rejoin the cohort below - to take a year out then restart at the next point0

The overall answer to the first question is no, you don't have to leave the university provided you continue to attend your lectures and pass your modules.
However, there is an option that I know many universities offer (I'm not sure if it is the same for all universities, best to check with your university) where you can apply in advance for a year out due to unforseen circumstances, which obviously includes pregnancy, and you can return a year later to start at the point you left. That way your friend can have her child without stressing over her course. As a recently graduated student however, I would recommend that if she goes for this option she may want to review her 1st year work during that year as she will undoubtedly forget a lot of it by the time she comes back as we all do even over the summer.
Some universities will even offer an extra bursary for students who are in her circumstance (a so-called 'Pro-Choice Fund') as a quick search on Google will demonstrate:

At the end of the day, she'd be best placed to discuss the options with someone from the university's Student Advice Centre as they will have information relevant to her and her university.
I hope this information helps!0 -
What needs to be bourne in mind though is not just the 'uni' part of it - i.e. modules, but the practice hours requirements for professional registration at the end of the course.0

She would be best off going to student support at the uni. not only will they have seen this all before, but they will be able go give advice on practical things such as child minding etc for when she does go back.
Everything said here is in the strictest of confidence, nothing goes back to your tutors, but they can be there for moral support if needs be.
I personally have deferred for two years from my teaching course, due to family illnesses, and the student support have been brill! shame about my tutors though! The sign of a wasted life is a tidy house, Welcome to the chaos!0 -
Thank You very much you peeps much appreciated..x
Happy New Yr..x0
